In 1923 he started manufacturing a small scrollsaw based on a design licensed from its inventor, Carl Moberg. Beginning in 1929, Tautz started identifying Delta Specialty Co.The Delta name was difficult to trademark in other jurisdictions so the Tauco name was used instead. We are uncertain of the ownership of Tauco and it is possible that it existed before the 1939 Marshall Field buyout. About the same time Rockwell also purchased Crescent Machine Co. Delta Manufacturing became Rockwell's Delta Power Tool Division. Shortly thereafter, Delta tools were labeled Delta Rockwell. It appears that the saws and their motors were manufactured for Rockwell by A. O. Smith Corp., which had already been making motors for Rockwell, and possibly for Delta before the purchase by Rockwell. The former Callander Foundry continued to operated as Rockwell International of Canada, Ltd. In 1981, the line of handheld power tools was sold to Pentair Inc. of St. Paul, MN, which operated it as the Porter-Cable line—a name that had disappeared shortly after Rockwell bought the Porter-Cable Machine Co. Pentair operated it as the Delta International Machinery Corp., which included the Canadian operations. Also beginning in the early 1990s, Lindquist Machine corp.In 1995, Delta bought rip-fence maker Biesemeyer Manufacturing Corp. In the late 1990s, Pentair merged Delta's and Porter-Cable's manufacturing operations in Jackson, Tennessee. In 2000, the two divisions were formally merged. The new company is Delta Power Equipment Corp. The CEO has said that the Delta products currently manufactured in the United States will continue to be made there. Keith's history article also provides information on specific product: when they were introduced, and how they changed over the years. Paint colors, how to rebuild a scrollsaw air pump, a type study of Delta cast-iron stands, information specific to bandsaw, lathes, Unisaws, and more.

I also took other people's advice and bought the 1 micron bag to replace the 30 micron bags that come with the Delta. I also bought a trash can lid separator as a second stage collector. I was afraid it would affect pull of the Delta but it seems to have very little effect (I couldn't tell the difference). I put the Delta together in about an hour. The instructions are clear but I think they're wrong in one part (they say to put lock washers under flat washers instead of against the nuts.I put the lock washers against the nuts and everything seems fine). The Delta comes with about 10 feet of hose and 4 3 inch wire hose clamps (as well as clamps and hose for the larger connection between the bags and fan. The Delta comes with 2 30 micron bags and 2 plastic bags to hold sawdust. I would definately buy the 1 micron bag; buy a trashcan separator; and plan your workshop so you don't have to move the 50-850 around -- it's really too bulky to move around and you'd be better off to attach it to ductwork anyway. In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading. My motor has very few hours on it and it just bogged down one day so I quickly shut it off. Then, when I went to start it, it would start to power up but withing 10 seconds trip the breaker. Looks like Delta is not the collector to buy! The new ones are a completely different style.
And hopefully they have found a different electric motor manufacture for these new ones. -WJA Hope this helps, -WJA Other issues may be a faulty internal centrifugal start switch or shorted start windings. You may want to take your motor to a qualified electric motor repair shop to have them diagnose your problem. Good luck, -WJA. To start viewing messages,When you converted it, did you need to purchase a different switch. I'll be receiving my 850 on Monday (i'll post gloat pics then) and would like to convert it to 220V. I checked out the manual on the Delta site and there was nothing about converting it to 220V. I phoned my service center and they faxed me a wiring diagram, but didn't say anything about a new switch. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Nick Most tools that can be converted to 240V come from the factory with a double-pole switch already installed; if there are 4 wires connected to your switch, it is double-pole and you're good to go. When you converted it, did you need to purchase a different switch. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Nick The G1029Z (according to Grizzly's produce literature) can be operated only on 220V. Attaching a 110V plug to it, as you mention above, would be hazardous.

Gauda 4.0 out of 5 stars I rewired mine for 230V operation which is wise if you have the voltage in your shop. The rewire was very easy and quickly done. The five foot hose that is included is of very high quality, but unfortunately too short for most applications. The machine really moves a lot of air, and you must take care not to suck up large pieces of wood. Small pieces of thin wood doesn't seem to be an issue, but still should be avoided. The noise level isn't unbearable but I still wear muffs especially when using it in conjunction with another tool. I only use one port and hook it up to one machine at a time, so I can't rate its ability to draw dust and chips from two machines simultaneously - though I suspect it would be fine. The bag still leaches some dust into the air, so either wear a lightweight respirator or have an air cleaner in your shop. All in all I am pleased with my purchase and my shop is much cleaner now. I would rate this 4.5 stars, but always round down in these cases.Ordered on Sunday afternoon - delivered on Thursday afternoon - Perfect condition - Outstanding job. Now the machine - it's big. If you have a small shop like mine this will fill up a big piece of it so be ready. Assembly is not bad and took about an hour. Instructions are pretty good but about what we've all come to expect with translation back and forth from English to Chinese.
You will need to fully tighten the motor hold down bolts - they forget to tell you. Did some trial turning and it had very good suction - it will be much better when I add a hood. Overall quality seems very good. Drum support struts varied from picture - they are stamped steel not tubes. Strong enough to do their job though. One surprise was that it came with a plastic bag (and a spare plastic bag) instead of the woven bag shown in the picture. I felt a little bit ripped off for that but since it will get changed out for a pair of 5 micron bags from Penn State who cares. The 30 micron bag is no good unless this thing stays outside the shop. The unit is surprisingly quiet and nowhere near the noise of a shop vac. I think it's a better deal than the DC1BXL or DC2 from Penn State even after the replacement bags are added.Did a lot of reading of diffferent reviews and settled on this one compared to the 760 because the static numbers are higher. Both the 850 and 760 are 1.5 H.P. and both put out 1200 CFM but if you look at all the numbers you will find the 850 is a little more powerful, and right now Amazon has lowered the price twice in two weeks. Now is the time to buy. The only problem I had in receiving this unit is the lower flange that bolted the motor to the cart was bent out of the box. Nothing a rubber mallet couldn't fix but this was done at the factory, there was no visible damage to the box or packaging. Was very easy to put together (45 mins) tops. I have read a lot of people complaining about install of bottom bag of this unit, Delta has solved that problem too, there are 4 small clips to hold bag in place and the large band clamp. Mine also came with a 5 micron bag, not the 30 it use to come with. I am very happy with this product, Thanks Delta! The Delta 50-850 is probably the smallest unit you'd want to buy that can effectively pull dust out of the air in a small shop.
Most tools that can be converted to 240V come from the factory with a double-pole switch already installed; if there are 4 wires connected to your switch, it is double-pole and you're good to go. With some equipment, the motor overload protection is built into the switch. When you convert from 120V to 240V you cut the current in half, and the thermal overload circuit needs to be changed; thus a new switch is needed. I don't know if this is the case with the Delta DC. The G1029Z (according to Grizzly's produce literature) can be operated only on 220V. Attaching a 110V plug to it, as you mention above, would be hazardous. I had to wait 4 months for the switch to come in but luckily I could still use the DC by plugging it in to turn it on and unplugging it to turn it off. I would assume the same would apply for your model because they apparently use the same switches for many of their machines. I can't seem to find it. Thanks! Had you asked this question after you actually tried hooking it up to your outlet, then I would be more willing to entertain your question, but asking this beforehand is just silly; to put it politely. The motor will not give you more power, run cooler, cost less, last longer, or any of the other cockamamie stories that people have told you.I think he's probably got it wired by now Greg I can't even count how many times I have written a response to a question, only to discover at the last minute that the question was 3 years old. Normally I spot them because I read them the first time, but sometimes they slip through. When you remove the 6 screws that hold the switch cover on the motor, you will find a wiring diagram showing how to make the change. Takes all of 5 minutes as you only have to swap a couple of wires and cut off one ring terminal to permit wire nutting that wire with another. No additional parts needed. Why convert? I have had this DC for probably 10 years and ran it on 110 all that time.
When I moved the DC to the new woodshop this fall, I kept tripping 20 amp breakers on start up. I replaced the capacitor which permitted the motor to start just fine without the fan attached but with the fan, it would trip the breaker. Took it to a repair guy who looked it over, tested it and shimmed the thrust bearings. Brought it home, same scenario - ran fine without the fan, add the fan, trip the breaker. Reviewed the situation with a couple of electricians. In the old shop, the DC was on a 110 20 amp circuit protected by a ITE breaker. The new shop uses a SquareD Homeline SQ series 20 amp breaker. Converted the DC to 220 and have not had a problem since. So, you can convert it easily, no new parts are required and there are reasons to do the conversion.

From the United StatesThink about it, if you have 5 machines that require dust collection, your dust collector will run continuously while any of those machines are in operation. Therefore, your dust collector will run five times a much as any other machine in your shop. I had serious doubts about units costing half as much as this one being able to keep pace with this requirement. I specifically was looking for a relatively compact size, maximum CFM capacity and as quiet as possible. I'm happy to report that all of these requirements were met by the Delta 2HP model. Yes this unit is made in Taiwan, but it is made to a very high standard and is well packaged to avoid shipping damage. In addition to the dust collector I also purchased the 1 micron upper bag, buy this if you plan on collecting sanding dust. I use what are called drum liners (intended to line 55 gallon drums and available at Home Depot) for the lower bag. Heavy plastic bags are better and can be re-used, but they are expensive, hard to find and do eventually rip. I also bought a remote control unit for the starter which has proven to be invaluable. I've complained in other postings on how difficult it is to get information on Delta products from Delta. Three requests on the DB rating of this machine made to their web site went unanswered. Just goes to show that even big companies wrestle with their intentions, direction and service on the web. Nonetheless, this is a high quality product and well worth the money. The three turnbuckles supplied with the Wynn conversion kit turned out to be the correct length to fit between the lower inner lip on the inside of the 35A filter and the ridges built into the mounting flanges. With the filter securely attached, I next mounted a collection bag that had been supplied by Delta. As mentioned earlier, you can use the tension band to mount on the inside of the flanges OR as I chose, use the metal band and clasp to mount the bag to the outside of the flange. The entire process did not take very long at all, maybe around 2 to 3 hours total, including the initial assembly of the dust collector. Delta really appears to have done an excellent job with the 50-760, building an apparently robust dust collector that assembles easily and quickly. Thanks to Dick and Rick Wynn for running a class operation with quality products and for their excellent customer support. I look forward to my upcoming projects and will let you know how this new system works in the real world. The product you see below is the 10 foot bag, in Singed Polyester. We offer the same bags in Glazed, as well as Nomex, and Tetra-Tex. We also have the 8 foot, as well as the 12 foot versions at similar pricing. If you are looking for improved filtration efficiency, better than a 16 oz.Give us a call to discuss. Polyester Zipper Bags used on most of the larger Torit Cyclones, including the Cyclone 24, 30, 36, and 44. These bags are in stock. Wynn replacement filters for the Torit Vibra Shake systems have been custom designed to eliminate problems such as poor filter cleaning, and poor filtration efficiency, which are common with the standard Torit Cellulose filters. Our “SB” Spunbond series was developed over 10 years ago, and was originally designed for use on belt sanders, grinders, and abrasive cutoff saws.
These operations produce dust with microscopic “hooks and barbs”, which tends to accumulate in the pleats of the factory OEM filters, eventually clogging them. Our Spunbond media is much smoother than the standard Torit Cellulose, and will clean a lot better, even when loaded with sticky, or fibrous material. And with a MERV rating of 11, the Spunbond is actually more efficient than the standard Torit Cellulose (which is only MERV 10). We have these filters in use on countless applications, ranging from metalworking, to food, to specialty chemicals. Please browse your series below, or enter the part number in the Search Box to the right. Please call with any questions. Our prices on the most commonly used HEPAs are typically 35%-50% below manufacturer’s retail price, and many come from the same production line as the OEM filter. All HEPA Filters and replacement parts are guaranteed to fit perfectly, and to perform as well as the OEM equivalent. All HEPA filters include MIL 282 efficiency scan along with the documentation and test results. Other vendors charge extra for test scanning. Guaranteed to meet or exceed the Imperial factory specifications and performance. Our Mitsubishi filters are manufactured here in the USA under the strictest quality standards, using premium quality MERV 11 microglass filter media. Colorimetric efficiency meets or exceeds the 65% standard. We are very proud of this product. Air flow, filtration efficiency, and filter life are guaranteed to meet or exceed your current filter. Please give us a call to discuss bulk shipments and quantity discounts. If you are here, it was rather the case. However, you are not the only person having problems with keeping the operation manual of all household devices. Below are few guidelines regarding how and why you should collect the product manuals. However, we believe that the manuals should include the most important and needed information about Delta AP400, not to discourage the user to read.
Now that I've been doing this full-time for a year I had a nagging suspicion that the cloth bags weren't filtering out the dangerous dust. I was right, the most dangerous dust is smaller than 1 micron. Do some research and also check out wynn manufacturing. You should also be able to find canister replacements for the bag. Also here's a tip on the lower bag, get rid of it and use some heavy plastic jobsite garbage bags from your local big box home improvement (stretch them out before trying to get them around the collector). Also this would be a great opportunity to use duct tape to temporarily hold the bag in place before you try to wrestle the metal compression band. On the plus side, zero maintenance issues, rock solid construction, 2hp seriously powerful motor. Put it this way I was using it to vacuum up some stuff and got it too close to the dust bag on my Milwaukee miter saw and it pulled it off the saw and ate it, must have smelled dust. Please try again later. Please try again later. Tom K. 4.0 out of 5 stars This machine will do it. I use metal ducting.I put a y in each of the inlets and have them connected to 6 machines. The Y's go to a band saw, sanding center and a scroll saw and I use blast gates to control the vacuum to each machine. Tried PVC.It was a waste of money.Stick with metal ducting and you will not regret it.Please try again later. Please try again later. Walter 4.0 out of 5 stars I am reducting the shop due to rearanging the tools. I wish this had a larger single port to give me better airflow. I think it would be helpful if the bottom bag had a full length zipper to help empty the bag. Also, the bottom bag should have a velcro strip on the bag to hold it inplace whild trying to put the metal band on.Please try again later. Please try again later. Remember to change your filters regularly. Shake you top bags often, wash them when they are dirty, and replace bags when they are worn.
If you experience an issue checking out, please try again later today. Thank you for your patience. While the unit came with a 1 micron filter bag, I wanted to maximize filtration as well as air flow through the filter media. Wynn Environmental has been getting very positive reviews for their product line of filters as applied to woodworking. After talking with Wynn Environmental on the phone, I purchased their 35A274BLOL conversion kit and assumed that I would be able to figure out some way to mount this filter onto the new Delta dust collector. As it turns out, it was a very straightforward process. Again, this is the outer diameter of the flanges. This means that the raised outer edge of the dust collector flange “should” snugly fit within the gasket mounted onto the filter. The flat bottom of the filter was firmly seated against the top of the flange. Prior to mounting the filter permanently this way, I placed some gasket material just to the inside edge of the existing gasket material that had been applied by Wynn Environmental. I ended up using a high density foam weather stripping. This material just had to fill any minor void that may exist between the bottom of the filter and the upper edge of the mounting flange. When I re-examined the inside of the unit, I noticed that Delta had built in a retaining ring or ridge just inside of both the top and bottom flanges. These are there to act as stops for the spring-type metal bands that Delta included for securing their filter bag to the inside of this unit. These bands fit very snugly into these areas to hold the filter bag and can be an option for mounting the collection bag. Delta also includes a traditional metal band and clasp system that fits on the outside of the flange. This latter method is what I decided to go with to secure the collection bag.
Obviously, if a device Delta AP400 has multiple advanced functions, we will not avoid a high amount of information in this document. Then, it will be much easier to find it than look through the purchase boxes which have already been thrown away by you or any other of household members. It will be enough to clear the drawer once in a year and throw away any manuals of the devices you do not use anymore. Thus, you can avoid storing any unnecessary documents and keep only those which are valid. You can also download and print the manual Delta AP400 to place it in your drawer. For Example: Foundation Drain, Framing, Cracking, etc. Fine dust particles ranging from 1 to 5 microns in size are so small that they are very difficult to see. Primary dust collections systems often times can’t filter particles that small or they simply don’t capture all the particles. To combat this properly designed woodshops should include fine dust particle collectors similar to the Air Cleaners from Delta. Note: Delta no longer sells the Model 50-875. The model was recently replaced with Model 50-875T2 which is basically the same air cleaner except that the rear filter is slightly different. I’ll mention that later on in the review. Features and Specifications 120 volt 3-Speed Fan Settings Outer Filter Captures particles that are five microns and larger. Secondary Interior Filter Captures 91% of the Dust Particles that are one micron and larger. Will filter the air in a room measuring 20’x20’x8.Installation and Ease of Use The Delta 50-875 Air Cleaner is built specifically to hang from the ceiling in your shop. The user’s manual also mentions setting it on a shelf or bench but the vast majority of installations are likely hanging from the ceiling just like I’ve done in my shop. As you can see above I’ve hung mine from the ceiling in the shop. The unit comes with 4 eye-bolts that screw into the top of the unit.
I installed 4 eye-lag screws into the ceiling (with additional blocking on the ceiling to distribute the weight). Then I used miniature clevices to attach all the eye-bolts. This makes it very easy to take the unit down and work on it if necessary. When I built the shop I knew I’d be installing an air cleaner so I also installed a dedicated 20 amp outlet above the unit. The unit comes with a fairly long power chord which provides some options on the actual mounting location. Installation took about 45 minutes from start to finish and the only assembly required was screwing the four eye-bolts into the top of the unit. Using the unit is very easy as well. You can either control it from the control panel on the unit or you can use the remote control. I like the remote control because it’s easier than reaching up high to turn the unit on and off. Filter System The Delta 50-875 Air Cleaner uses two sets of filters to filter dust particles from 1 to 5 microns in size (or larger). This is the only real difference between this model and the newer 50-875T2. The new 50-875T2 uses a pleated filter while the 50-875 uses the an electrostatic filter shown above. The electrostatic filter can be purchased as an accessory for the new 50-875T2 if needed. I really like the electrostatic filter on my air cleaner. I can quickly take it off the unit and clean it out with my vacuum or compressed air (typically I blow it clean with air in front of my dust collection hoses to collect all the dust. The outer filter captures dust particles 5 microns and larger and I find myself cleaning it often which just shows you how much dust can be kicking around the shop even with a large dust collector running. The inner filter is a 3 pocket filter that collects dust particles in size from 1 micron up to 5 microns. This particular filter cannot be cleaned and must be replaced when it’s full of dust. This is the filter that provides the vital protection against dust that the naked eye can’t even see.
Works with the Jet 1000CFM Air Filtration System (sold separately). It was well packed, but the cabinet frame was somewhat damaged at the rear edge -- it looked like it had been dropped on its corner. This did not interfere with operation. Since I mounted the machine at ceiling height the remote is a great convenience. User Manuals, Guides and Specifications for your Delta 50-870 Air Cleaner. IMPORTANT: Never operate the air cleaner without air filters in place.
Performance Performance is a fairly hard thing to measure on an air cleaner like this unless you work in a really cool science lab. However, what I can do is share my experience with this air cleaner. Prior to installing it I always had fine dust lying all over my benches, my tools, and in my clothes. Now that I’m using the 50-875 in my shop the amount of fine dust is almost negligible and my clothes are not nearly as dusty. I’ve been using the system for the last 6 months. Just this week I had to clean out the outer filter because the system was air flow indicator (shown at right) indicated that it was time to clean the filters. As you can see the arrow was in the red which meant the air flow was restricted due to the filters being full of dust. Once I cleaned off the outer filter we were back in business. From what I can see I’ll probably need to replace the inner filter after another 3 to 6 months (I use my shop probably 4 to 6 hours per week). Video Review Check out my short video review for an overview of the Delta 50-875 and how I’m using it in my shop. Final Thoughts Shop safety is a very important issue to me in my shop and it should be for you as well. Woodworking is such a rewarding hobby and career but it does come with risks. Fine dust can pose serious risks to your health so it’s really important to filter the air in your shop. The Delta 50-875 Air Cleaner works great in my shop helping filter out small dust particles. The unit is very well built with high quality materials. The only small complaint I have is it’s a bit noisy. Obviously noise is a result of moving so much air so it’s a small price to pay for clean air. If you’re in the market for an air cleaner I highly recommend the Delta 50-875 along with their entire line of dust collection equipment. Where To Buy As I said the Delta 50-875 is being phase out. However, there are still units available for sale.

The durable plastic collection bag can be mounted on one of two rings. The upper bag can filter out pollutants 5 micron in size--contaminants that your eyes can't see but your lungs will thank you for. In addition, you can upgrade your machine to five- or one-micron filter bags. The 6-cubic-foot collection bag is a 6-mil durable plastic that allows you to see when the bag needs changing. Exhaust is filtered through the filter bag rather than the collection bag to prevent air from escaping. The dust collector includes four swivel caster assemblies, a cord, a plug, and an instruction manual.Delta may require that electric motors be returned prepaid to a motor manufacturer's authorized station for inspection and repair or replacement. Gauda 4.0 out of 5 stars I rewired mine for 230V operation which is wise if you have the voltage in your shop. The rewire was very easy and quickly done. The five foot hose that is included is of very high quality, but unfortunately too short for most applications.

I would definately buy the 1 micron bag; buy a trashcan separator; and plan your workshop so you don't have to move the 50-850 around -- it's really too bulky to move around and you'd be better off to attach it to ductwork anyway. Cheers, Nick The G1029Z (according to Grizzly's produce literature) can be operated only on 220V. Attaching a 110V plug to it, as you mention above, would be hazardous.
I think it's a better deal than the DC1BXL or DC2 from Penn State even after the replacement bags are added.
Did a lot of reading of diffferent reviews and settled on this one compared to the 760 because the static numbers are higher.

Please upgrade your browser to improve your experience. To be effective, a portable dust collector must move air fast enough to transport big chips, shavings, and dust; move enough air to capture all the waste that woodworking machinery generates; and trap even the finest dust particles. But without a first-class filter, a dust collector becomes a dust-recirculating pump, spewing contaminated air throughout the shop. The 10 collectors tested are about the most powerful type available that run on normal 120v household current. They have a 1.5-hp motor driving an impeller to suck dust into the filter and the collection bags. They’re designed to handle the waste from a typical shop machine but not from two machines at once.
As a practical matter, a dust collector needs to provide 800 cfm or more to move all the dust, chips, and shavings that machines like tablesaws, jointers, and planers produce. The Delta 50-850 performed well.Sign Up Now. This is much more machine than off shore imports. A two stage dust collector means that your saw dust, blocks of wood, nails and other debris do not go through the fan impellor, but drop into the drum and only fine dust goes in the bag.
