We didn't know what the problem was, but after gathering the right tools and a bit of part searching and ordering, we could get the replacement parts. Then, after few hours of diagnosis and labor, we were able to get the belt sander up and running again. Here is how we fixed it. Add Tip Ask Question Comment Download Step 1: Tools To be able to get started, you'll need the following tools: - Screw drivers ( 3 standard sizes). - A hammer. - Set of allen keys (different sizes). - Thin wire. Add Tip Ask Question Comment Download Step 2: Diagnostic - First we inspected the power cable. Because the cable was in a good condition, we decided to connect the sander to the power. - - Once powered, we were able to diagnose that sander belt was not turning but the engine was working fine. The motor seamed to have no load; it was spinning but nothing else happened. - We decided to open the machine. - While unscrewing for opening the cover, we realized that one screw was missing. We used an screw of the same size from the robotic life tool box. However, we couldn't identify right away which pieces were broken. - We inspected the motor axis with a wire, trying to pull off the loose pieces. Though we were able to identify which pieces were out of place (rubber belt and motor axis cap), we couldn't take them out. Add Tip Ask Question Comment Download Step 4: Moving the Motor After the unsuccessful attempt to taking the pieces out using the wire, we determined that we needed to move the motor outside its protective cover.
To do that, it was necessary to unscrew the disk that rotates over the machine's horizontal axis. Add Tip Ask Question Comment Download Step 5: How Could the Wheel Be Taken Off. Also, we struggled to understand how the wheel could be taken off. We found that it could be unscrewed from the inside. This allowed us to see that the rubber belt was not fixed properly and that another plastic part (motor axis cap) was not properly attached to the wheel. Add Tip Ask Question Comment Download Step 6: Fidding the Appropriate Rubber Belt Once we took the loose parts out, we identified that the drive belt was shot. However, we didn't find an exact mach with our model. Hence, after counting the number of marks on the rubber belt (80), we were able to find the vendors: McMaster: MikesTools: Add Tip Ask Question Comment Download Step 7: Installing the New Rubbert Belt Once the rubber belt arrived, we could try it out on the sander - it worked great. The pulley was a bit loose so we used an old trick and put paper between the motor shaft and the pulley. The pictures below depict the steps for setting up the new belt: 1. (p. 0185): Old belt vs. New belt. Notice the lack of teeth of the old belt. 2. (p. 0188): Install plastic pulley on motor shaft. Used paper on shaft to increase friction fit. Rubber hammer was used to install the pulley 3. (p. 0186, 0187): Install belt and tighten tension bolt with adjustable wrench. Add Tip Ask Question Comment Download Step 8: Working Like a Charm. Once the rubber belt was intalled, we were able to rebuild the sander. It worked like a charm!!:-)) Hope this helps other people. Ryan, Jerome, Selene, and Ned Add Tip Ask Question Comment Download Share it with us! I Made It! Recommendations DIY Laser Engraver With RGB Everything was working fine until I put the plastic guard and disc plate back on- it became evident that the drive belt was slipping off the gear and cutting into the guard.

Am I to understand that this is similar to the tracking of the sanding belt. In that it's a balancing act to keep the belt in the right place. Or am I missing something. Taking the plate off is a real pain in the ass, so I'd like to know what I'm doing before I go any further. 0 amclaussen This problem was not present when the sander was new, and it behaved OK for three years, and then started acting. Any suggestions? Amclaussen (amarquezclaussen at Hotmail.com) 0 Kevanf1 I have a similar belt and disk sander. It is marketed by a company called Clarke here in the UK but it is also very similar to one with the 'Titan' name also. To get the motor fixed is around ?150. Way over the top in both cases. So I'm looking at adapting another motor to put in its place. Has anybody ever done this with this style of sander? 0 bobzjr I have the same Delta sander. Any advice on removing the aluminum disc. Mine is stuck! I'm very familiar with the set screw accessible via the top with a hex key. I have taken it out completely and replaced back into position multiple times. With limited view and access, it's much like Arthroscopic Surgery. As I cannot remove the disc, I also am unable to remove the black plastic housing which is positioned behind the disc. I riveted part of CD to use as my pivoting cover. Actually very functional. I was able to see that my belt is worn strangely. If you think of the ridges as running horizontally, I see that the left 50% of ridge is about completely worn away. The right side still looks OK. The belt has come off FREQUENLTY. I'm able to get the existing belt back on properly. But - I'm guessing a new belt will certainly help. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can replace the belt without getting access behind the black plastic cover. Any suggestions on how to get the aluminum disc off. Would you have any suggestions. I've put a couple pictures here to illustrate. After peeling off the sandpaper disc, I noticed 3 holes visible from the outside.
See photo here. Also, I plan to put up some detailed notes in a separate instructable. Thanks, by the way, Nice instructable, very detailed. 0 finbar galdeep A wonderful instructable. Thank you for taking me through all the steps. I had a similar problem with a Ryobi sander, and the drive belt was the problem. I wouldn't have even known what to look for had I not seen this. I tried to take it apart a little bit to see if I could get to the problem, I think it might just be the belt going from the motor to the disk which slipped off the pulley or something. So here is a website that has free manuals. The manual should help you figure out how to get it apart. The sanding disc is held onto a shaft by an allen bolt. It sounds like this might have worked loose. There is a notch in the top of the black cover. You'll need to line up the allen bolt on the wheel with the notch in the black cover in order to reach in with a long allen key to get to the bolt. If the bolt is tight, loosen it and take off the sanding disc. You'll be able to see whether or not the belt that spins the shaft is broken. You'll also be able to see the 2 screws that hold the black cover on. Hope this helps. I'm interested in seeing what the inside of one of those looks like, too. Use our part lists, delta. delta 37-190 manual
Try to find a reliable sharpening service in your area; someone who does saw blades and knives for the cabinet shops will have a source for tool steel and carbide and can make you a set of knives for your jointer. Just get tool steel. While it won't hold it's edge quite as long as carbide knives, it will take a sharper edge to begin with, and should last just fine if you don't run sand through it. If you have the original knives, hang onto them as they most likely can be resharpened to like new condition, and steel today ain't necessarily what it used to be. The critical factor is the height. You want them to be able to rest all the way down on the adjustable pistons without sticking up more than 10-15 thousands above the cutterhead. That will give you the most resharpenings from a set. You might want to invest in a magnaset to help with setting the knives in place. If you find a place that will return your funds if they don't, you might be able to order them online. These guys will carry them if you can't find someone nearer you: If I've answered your question or solved a problem, please take a moment to rate this posting.thanks! It is there. Looking at the manual I take it you are talking about the ring that has an indentation to quickly go back to square. If so, there should be an allen head locking screw on it. You loosen the screw while the indented part is mated with the pull knob, then square the fence and tighten the set screw. If not what you're talking about can you post a pic. I'm not really sure where the feeler gauge is supposed to go anyway. Thanks guys, Scott There is a high side and a low side. Which side goes toward the blade. I ran a board and it made a loud sort of bang near the end. I stopped and inspected the blades and 2 now have a slight nick in them. I know, it can't go in backwards.but it can if you take the screws out completely to clean up rust etc and didn't notice the asymmetry when you took it apart. Scott I have not been to my shop to look at my jointer tonight yet,I will let you know if I am wrong. Mike. Make the final out-feed height setting with test runs. I believe the stick method is simply putting a cutoff on the outfeed table hanging over the cutterhead and adjusting until the knive just picks up and moves the stick.

I understand the Outfeed Table is supposed to be 'tight,' while it might also be adjustable using the installed Hand Knob as per the manual. In my case, I fear stripping the handle before I can move the out-feed table at all. I am not sure how that Hand Knob is fastened to the shaft it is attached to and don't want to risk breaking and parts that might prove irreplaceable (this is an old jointer). Before I try loosening the lock nuts that hold the Gib(s) which would certainly loosen things up - then require careful resetting (and a helper according to the manual) - I thought to ask here in case there was some 'trick' I never heard of. I've used it with good results (no micrometer checking, however - just old eyeballs). Then, I saw how to set it up properly on YouTube and decided my Outfeed Table was a bit too high relative to the TDC of the cutter knives. I am hoping one or more of the members here have one of these and at least one of you has addressed this same or a similar issue successfully. You can spend hours adjusting it and end up in worse shape than you are now. Previous owner might have shimmed it so it can't go lower. If you really need to adjust it, mark your current location on front and back and try raising it a little to break the contact. Check for an obstruction. The ways may need to be cleaned. I finally got the outfeed table to move after loosening the gib set screws. I am not sure if the in and outfeed tables are in the same plane. I do know that, after I fixed it the first time, I was able to create shim stock if I ran a piece through enough times (one end got smaller than the other end). Thanks for the feedback and advice - leave well enough alone (unless you know how to fix it!( You can make a master bar set with some scrap mdf and some drywall screws if you don't have a long enough or straight enough straightedge. A locking mechanism selectively restrains sliding movement of the second member within the first bore to thereby adjust the length of the first arm and vary the position of the surface relative to the first element. FEDERALLY SPONSORED RESEARCH Not applicable. TECHNICAL FIELD AND INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to adjustment apparatuses and, more particularly, to apparatuses for adjustment and locking of the workpiece support surface of machinery such as for example, woodworking and metal working machinery. The present invention may be adapted for use with any device having one or more surfaces that may be adjusted in position relative to one or more other elements of the device. Examples of possible applications of the adjustment apparatus of the present invention include use as a workpiece support surface height adjustment mechanism for the infeed table of a jointer. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION BACKGROUND A number of known cutting devices include a driven cutting or abrading member such as, for example, a cylindrical blade, that is bordered on either side by a generally planar workpiece support surface. In such devices, a workpiece is advanced along the infeed table portion of the support surface toward the driven cutting member. The workpiece passes over the cutting member, where a portion of the workpiece (the stock) is removed therefrom, and onto the outfeed table portion of the support surface. A familiar example of such a device is a woodworking jointer, in which the cutting member includes a rotating cylinder having one or more elongate blades disposed along the length thereof so that a cutting surface of each blade is exposed and may contact a workpiece. The cutting member is rotationally mounted at a fixed height relative to a base in a recess between the infeed and outfeed tables.
In order to accurately remove the desired amount of stock from the workpiece, the position of the infeed table must be adjusted with some precision to a desired height relative to the cutting member. A variety of infeed table positioning devices are known to accomplish this task. However, these devices generally require that the operator of the jointer manipulate a variety of separate adjustment and locking components in order to adjust and lock the height of the infeed table. In particular, the operator must separately unlock, adjust, and re-lock the infeed table. Unlocking the infeed table so that its height may be freely adjusted is accomplished by, for example, unscrewing a threaded connector that frictionally fixes the height of the infeed table. Repositioning the height of the infeed table is accomplished by, for example, manually urging the infeed table up or down an inclined plane on a set of rails relative to the cutting member and the outfeed table. Finally, re-locking the infeed table is accomplished by, for example, tightening the threaded connector mentioned above. The locking mechanism may be located on a side of the jointer that requires the operator to change his or her position to manipulate the locking mechanism, further complicating the adjustment process. It will be appreciated that, although such apparatuses described in general above may be used to successfully adjust the height of the infeed table relative to the cutting member, the number of individual operations that must be performed and the complexity of each of these operations does not lend itself to the quick and accurate adjustment of the infeed table. In particular, when it is necessary to perform a number of jobs in succession that require the infeed table to be adjusted to a variety of heights, the loosening, repositioning, and tightening procedure required to adjust the table may need to be repeated a number of times.
Therefore, it is desirable to reduce the time, complexity, and number of steps that are required to reposition the infeed table of the jointer while allowing an accurate positioning of the height at which the infeed table is positioned. Accordingly, it would be advantageous to provide a mechanism by which the height of the infeed table of a jointer may be quickly and easily repositioned relative to other elements of the jointer to allow for rapid and precise adjustment and locking of the height of the infeed table relative to the cutting member. More broadly, there exists a need for an improved adjustment mechanism for adjusting and locking a position of a first surface of a woodworking, metal working, or other device relative to one or more other elements of the device. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In accordance with the present invention, there is provided an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the position of a surface relative to a first element. The surface is resident on a second element. The adjustment mechanism includes a first arm having first and second members. The other of the first and second members is pivotally mounted to the second element about a second axis. The first member including a first bore therein, and at least a portion of the second member is received by and is slidably movable within the first bore. The invention also includes a locking mechanism that selectively restrains sliding movement of the second member within the first bore. By appropriately adjusting the position of the second member within the first bore of the first member, a length of the first arm is varied to thereby adjust the position of the surface relative to the first element. The present invention also is directed to a workpiece table elevation adjustment mechanism that selectively adjusts an elevation of a workpiece support table relative to a base of a device for one of cutting and abrading a workpiece.
The workpiece table elevation adjustment mechanism includes an adjustable arm of variable length and having a first end and a second end. One of the first end and the second end is pivotally mounted to the base about a first axis, and the other of the first end and the second end is mounted to the workpiece support table about a second axis. The adjustable arm also includes first and second sections. The second section includes a sleeve portion, and a region of the first section is received by and is slidably movable within the sleeve portion. A locking mechanism selectively restrains movement of the first section relative to the second section. The present invention is further directed to an apparatus that includes an adjustment mechanism, and wherein the apparatus includes a base having a first inclined surface and support that is slidably mounted on the first inclined surface. The apparatus further includes a first arm having first and second members. One of the first and second members is pivotally mounted to the base about a first axis, and the other of the first and second members is pivotally mounted to the support about a second axis. The first member includes a first bore, and at least a portion of the second member is received by and is slidably movable within the bore. A locking mechanism selectively restrains the sliding movement of the second member within the first The present invention addresses shortcomings of the known adjustment mechanisms by providing a quick and easily manipulable arrangement for adjusting the position of a surface such as, for example, a workpiece support surface of a woodworking, metal working, or other machine or device, relative to another surface or element. These and other details, features and advantages will be apparent to those of ordinary skill as the following detailed description of embodiments of the invention proceeds.
The invention is not intended to be limited to the embodiments so described, and the scope of the invention is provided in the appended claims. For ease of description, the invention and devices incorporating the invention may be described herein in a normal operating position, and terms such as upper, lower, horizontal, proximal, distal, etc., may be used with reference to the normal operating positions and the normal position of an operator using a device incorporating the invention. It will be understood, however, that the invention and devices incorporating it may be manufactured, stored, transported, used, and sold in orientations other than the positions described. The adjustment mechanism of the invention may be incorporated in certain conventional components, of jointers and other devices, and the details of those conventional components, although not fully described or illustrated herein, will be apparent to those having ordinary skill in the art. Referring now to the drawings for the purposes of illustrating the present preferred embodiments of the invention only and not for the purpose of limiting the same, the several drawings generally show various aspects of an embodiment of the present invention in the form of an adjustment mechanism 10 in use in connection with a woodworking jointer 20. While the present invention is particularly well-suited for adjustment and locking of the relative height of the infeed and outfeed tables 22 and 24, respectively, of the jointer 20 depicted in the several drawings submitted herewith, the skilled artisan will appreciate that the adjustment mechanism 10 of the present invention disclosed herein may be successfully employed in myriad of other applications in which the adjustment of one surface relative to another is required. Therefore, the jointer 20 is employed herein only as one example of the application of the invention to assist in the description of the invention.

She said it's very easy to find accent colors to match the bed and she says that grey is the perfect color for a boy or a girl. My wife and I worked together as a team to lay out each part and follow the step by step instructions. While laying out the parts I examined them and there was not a scratch on any of the wood, everything was in great condition. We began putting the parts together and every part fit perfectly and the frame fit together well and was very sturdy. Before we added the mattress we decided to see how easy it would be to convert the bed to another conversion. We tried the toddler bed and also the day bed conversion. It was very easy to follow the instructions and change the bed around. We didn't try the full size conversion due to time restraints. We switched the bed back and added the mattress, it stands at the right height to bend and lift out a baby. We can't wait to get the comforter and add a grandchild in the near future to make the room complete. And lowest level setting will place the top of the mattress, approximately 20” from the top of the rail. Which we now use, due to our granddaughter's ability to now pull herself up and beginning to walk. The only one thing I wish Delta did better with this crib, is to make the three mattress spring height settings, a little easier to adjust. It is not difficult, but it does require me to remove the four screws, and then reinsert them at the next required level. The assembled dimensions are: 55” L x 32.25” W x 43.5” H. Once fully assembled, I dropped in the standard mattress we purchased (not provided) and stepped back to enjoy our handiwork. It looked great! The medium grey color we selected, looked very modern, smooth to the touch, solid as a rock, and had no paint odor. It weighs in around 70 lbs., which I find a good thing, as most babies will eventually begin to rock their cribs, as they get stronger. Also, I look for child products which are JPMA certified, as this means that it meets or exceeds CPSC and ATSM standards; a must in my book. We really like this crib, as it will eventually become a toddler bed, daybed, and maybe even a full size bed. Though, I will eventually need to purchase a few accessories to make certain bed transitions: toddler guardrail and a full size bed rails and mattress. I find Delta's pricing for these add-ons, a bit pricey, since it is advertised as a 4 in 1, not a “can-be” converted. For this reason alone, I have dropped one star from the overall rating. One comment I would like to share in reference to the crib rail height. If you select a crib with a bottom drawer, do try to reach over the top rail to the mattress top, set at the lowest setting. You may discover the rail top of the crib, being a bit higher than those cribs without a drawer. This Delta crib measures 34” from floor level to the top of the front rail. 0 ) out of 5 stars Beautiful JPMA certified convertible crib. June 1, 2017 The sleigh bed design of this crib is beautiful. The sleigh bed design means that the back of the crib is a solid piece of wood instead of slats like many cribs. It's well-made and sturdy. The box weighed a little over 70 pounds. It took 2 people less than 45 minutes to put it together. The directions were clear enough that cussing wasn't required. We used a drill, but a cute little Allen wrench was in the box. This crib meets all safety standards set by the federal govt. It is JPMA certified (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association.) Safety guidelines are very specific in regards to anything that can trap, choke, squeeze, or suffocate a baby. If you don't have a way to measure it, one site recommended using an aluminum soda can. When it's no longer a crib or toddler bed, the color won't make it look babyish. Both genders and any age can manage to find beautiful bedding to use with gray. Minor but noticeable. Some of the higher end cribs had teething rails built on. There are many choices available to add that when the time comes. Overall, this is an excellent choice for a crib. It's heavy, sturdy, safe and a beautiful sleigh bed design. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the minor blemish and the additional costs to convert it to a toddler or full-size bed. Yes ( 1 ) No ( 0 ) Report Average Rating: ( 4.0 ) out of 5 stars Very nice crib May 30, 2017 This crib is made well and comes with all the hardware needed. It takes an hour or two to put together. It's sturdy, has good instructions and appears safe. It even has a paper attached to the spring showing you which side of the spring should face up. HOWEVER, it's easy to attach the hardware on the spring WRONG and make the mattress too high and unsafe.
The only thing is that it has everything for it to be made in to a crib and a day bed but for you to be able to make it in to a toddler bed and an adult bed you have to buy the bed rails separately, but it's ok since you won't need them right away, and I personally think that the price is awesome since its 4 beds in 1 and your child will have for many many years so on the long run you are saving hundreds of dollars, and the crib is super easy to put together, the instructions are really easy to follow, my husband and I were able to put it together with no problem and if you don't like to read instructions you can always watch a video on youtube of how its done so you dont have to worry if you don't understand the instructions, well I truly love this 4 in 1 crib and I'm pretty sure you will too, I recommend it 100%. Yes ( 0 ) No ( 0 ) Report Average Rating: ( 4.0 ) out of 5 stars Very Safe and Modern Style Baby Crib. May 16, 2017 This is my second go around with being a grandfather; five years apart, with another one in the planning phase. After my experience with the previous cribs we owned, I knew what I needed, not wanted, to make overnight's easy and safer for both our grandbaby and us. I selected this crib for several reasons: build and material safety, crib weight, mattress height, and a modern look, which will maintain its stylish look.
Before I begin this review, I must say that Delta's shipping packaging was superb; see one of the attached pictures. It arrived, weighing in at 72.6 lbs. I have received many products via online orders, and many arrived scratched, dented, or just plain broken; Delta's delivery condition was perfect and easy to unwrap. It took me five minutes to unwrap the shipping packaging and another 40 minutes for my son-in-law and myself, to assemble the crib. As I unpacked the box, I was very happy to see the beautiful and modern color and styling of the wood crib. My daughter liked it so much, she wanted to pack it up and take it back to her home. But no, this will remain in our granddaughter's home away from home. I found the assembly instructions located on the mattress spring, inside the attached cardboard envelope; very easy to overlook. I laid out all the major parts, taking note of the lettered and information stickers on each one. After finding the assembly tool (1), I just followed the step-by-step instructions. Two people does make the assembly go faster and a bit easier, but one person can handled it. The assembly went off without a hitch, though having two assembly tools would have expedited the process. During the assembly, I found that the wood pieces were well made, with no rough or sharp edges. It assembled well, except for the last major piece to bolt on, the backboard. I had to pull it back a bit from the leg, in order to align the three bolt holes. All the bolts and parts fit well, and I could tell the metal bolts were of good quality, as I tightened them, not one bolt stripped at the head. I took care to just snug them up, not over tighten them, I just used normal strength; this is a solid crib. Also, during the assembly, I had to make a decision as to which of the three mattress height settings I wanted. The middle level setting will place the top of the mattress 16” from the top of the rail, which we like to use when the baby starts to roll around.
So, it's best to watch a You Tube video of instructions, step by step, so you install the hardware connected to the spring in the correct position. If installed correctly, it makes the spring plus mattress low enough that the toddler can stand without toppling out. The gray is a pretty gray. I was afraid it would be too washed out and dull but, it's not. It's a very nice gray color. I would definitely recommend this to others. For rookies;-) make sure you put the crib together in the room that is will stay in, because you will not be able to move it into a different room once put together. It didn't take a lot of time to put together, and the bed feels sturdy (as in, when I try to shake it, it feels quite solid. However, days later when i put the mattress in, the mattress apparently caught on the wood somehow and ripped a splinter of the wood out (see attached photo). This did not occur earlier. There were no rough edges on the mattress. Literally, putting the mattress into the crib caused this to happen. I now have to go find some wood repair tools to make sure my baby doesn't get a splinter from where this thing cracked. This is very, very disappointing in what would otherwise be a nice purchase. I'm leaving a three-star review to convey a mix of the good qualities (esthetics, ease of assembly) and unacceptable ones (splintering from friction with a mattress during the initial mattress placement). I think if you buy this product, keep in mind that all actions around it (putting it together, installing the mattress) should be done very cautiously. Of course, I don't know how I could have been more cautious gently lowering a mattress into it. Update: Contacted the company, and they sent me a new replacement piece. Much appreciated. Still feel like the product is fragile, but I do like the look of it and appreciate the customer service. For some reason the distance between the bars in the gate are smaller than that in the rest of the crib. Disappointed that I had to order a different barrier on Amazon. Called Delta but have yet to receive a call back.I appreciate that it really was not that difficult to put together, it took about 30 minutes to get it completely set up. We set the crib up with other items we found on Amazon too and we are very happy with how it is looking now. Sheets - Skirt - Quilt - Mattress - It is sturdy, looks really nice and was easy to assemble.once we got all the pieces.
We ordered this crib the first week of November and received a package about 5 days later. We opened it up to find it was the wrong crib. We had to submit a return and repackage it and drag it outside to be sent back. About a week later we go another package and this time it was the right crib.just missing two out of the four legs and some of the hardware. What followed was a comedy of errors that was not funny in the least. The instruction manual is in an envelope attached to the bed spring and we didn't find it right away. We went on Delta's website to download the manual so we could order the correct parts. The only problem is, the manual they had online was for a different version of the crib with different part numbers. We placed an order for the wrong replacement parts and received pieces to an entirely different crib. We sent those back and placed another reorder, this time after finding the correct instruction manual in the box. Once again, we received pieces to a different piece of furniture. I called and asked to talk to a manager and got the run around and didn't even get an apology for the issues. I was told I was being connected to a manager and instead was hung up on. I called back and went through the same process and was hung up on again. I asked if they could ensure I would get the right parts this time and I was told the order was correctly placed and they would personally confirm it went out correctly. At this point it had been over two months since I placed the original order and asked that the shipping be expedited, I was told they would send it that day. I went through another 30 minutes on the phone trying to confirm I'd get the correct parts and they sent me the two legs I already had. I made one final call and finally got through to a manager and confirmed the order was correct. A few days later I finally got the missing pieces. From start to finish, it took 4 months to get the missing pieces and over 2.5 hours on the phone.
We received 9 pieces to furniture we don't own and two huge bags of screws and bolts for a different piece as well. Love the crib, but Delta customer service is a poorly guided tour through the 7th level of hell.I bought the Cherry Espresso color and it looks so elegant in my baby's nursery. When we purchased the crib, I was 8 months pregnant and was able to help put it together. Very easy assembly. After being put together, it feels very sturdy. Now that my daughter is 1 year-old, it is still very sturdy every with all the bouncing around she does. The frame supporting the mattress is metal and is very sturdy. There are three different height settings on this crib. We used the highest setting for when our daughter was an infant, and once she could stand, we moved it to the lowest one. She can jump around without me fearing she will fall out. I did put a rail guard on the front because my daughter likes to chew:) The price of this crib was also great. I looked at many cribs in retail stores but they were very expensive and not what I was looking for. I was so happy to find this one here and am still satisfied with the purchase. I would definitely buy this again!Sorry, we failed to record your vote.
LOCKING SWITCH IN THE “OFF” POSITION IMPORTANT: We suggest that when the shaper is not in use, the switch be locked in the “OFF”. To raise the spindle height, turn the handwheel (B) clockwise. To lower the spindle height, turn handle (B) counterclockwise.NOTE: For certain applications, the supplied spindle guard may have to be used or a custom guard may need to be fabricated. NOTE: Thumb screws on guard mounting bracket (R) Fig. 56, can be loosened to permit extension of guard assembly. The starting pin (A) is placed on one of the tapered holes (B) in the table. 2. Involute relief design permits honing of the face without changing the shape. I've been ordered doors when the client wants RP, but I lose profit in doing so. Thus far, the only set of raised panel doors I made were with my router table and a Dewalt 621 (that I eventually burned up) and Makita RP2301FC 3.25hp using CMT's 6 piece cabinet door set. It was tedious making 100 doors and panels (Knotty Alder) that required 2 passes and I was getting sub par results (loose joints). From everything I could read, it was due to vibration. I played with RPM speed and 10-11k seemed to be the best for my application. Considering I want to make my own doors for the cabinets I build, I decided it was a good time to upgrade. It was vibrating enough to cause my stiles and rails to walk across the table. The joint was sloppy. I ran the rails with a homemade cope jig and the stiles with the power feeder. I moved the belt to 7k and ran another frame: less vibration but still some slop (the joint would hold together against gravity), more so than the router bit set. I'll don my bullet proof vest and helmet first. The table doesn't vibrate without cutters installed. The spindle doesn't have play. The pulleys from motor to spindle are aligned. The shaper is on a mobile Shop Fox base. What is a normal amount of vibration. Am I missing something that isn't listed in the manual. I haven't contacted Grizzly as of yet.
I recently found the exact same starter (609awa) on eBay that I purchased to mount on this shaper as well. This shaper was converted and outfitted with a Delta Milwaukee 3HP 3ph NEMA 66 frame motor and an A-B reversing drum switch as a main start control. I replaced the motor with a new 3HP 1ph Leeson motor and a new motor pulley and mounted the A-B 609awa manual starter. I knew there was a reason why I didn't sell the mobilebase I bought for my Unisaw 20 years ago, it came in handy for this shaper, considering that the casting is the same. Start with no cutters, add the bottom cutter, then try the bottom and middle, then add the top cutter. If you get a big change from one, then this is the culprit. My delta and scmi schapers vibrate very little. Also, I've run the numbers and had my miser-of-a-wife (who is an accountant) double check; the profit is minimal but enough to justify me making my own doors. Plus, it's a matter of pride. I'll check it out. I find the more I read and learn, the more ignorant I am. It's a bit overwhelming so I'm going to eat this elephant one bite at a time. I'll definitely do more research and advice seeking before my next shop upgrade. Justin It's a bit overwhelming so I'm going to eat this elephant one bite at a time. I'll definitely do more research and advice seeking before my next shop upgrade. Justin That's true for everybody. Imagine how life was before the internet, with forums and youtube, etc. If you want to read about door making, I would recommend looking at the old threads on this site.SECO is not high end, similar to Grizzly but it had no vibration to speak of. Still won't give you the quality of a big shaper with largerer diameter cutters- which you will eventually move to- but the vibration you are experiencing is machine related. It should be better than that, even on a mobile base. Dave Either way of making doors or out-sourcing them, they each have their advantage. The biggest advantage to out-sourcing it frees up time. The biggest advantage the way I see it to building your own it puts you in control. I would get no less than 3 shapers, 2 three horse and 1 five horse and two power feeders. Good luck. It's a bit overwhelming so I'm going to eat this elephant one bite at a time. Justin I've been working with wood in some way my entire life, professionally for almost 20 years and on my own for roughly 12 now.
Thanks, Justin Most pro shops do outsource their doors for this very reason. In a small start up shop there's no way your going to make more profit making your own doors. Now I'm not telling you to go a different direction, I still make all my own doors as a matter a quality and convenience. Just that in terms of pure cost outsourcing is cheaper. Also make sure your charging enough to cover all your overhead and make a paycheck. Guys building multiple homes a year are generally looking for the cheapest guy in town. It's OK to start out low, but you don't want to earn a rep as the cheapest shop around:o Now as to your shaper.you should be able to do some work with your machine. If you really end up as busy as you think you will your going to outgrow it. Actually if you have all that work you've already outgrown it, you just don't know it yet;) But it's what you have sooooo.you say there's no vibration without the cutters installed so you've already narrowed down where the vibration is coming from. I have no experience with the manufacturer your using but you may want to try a better quality set in the future and see what that does for you. If so that's tight enough, you don't want them so tight you have to force them together. As far as speed goes 7k rpm's is fine for your sticking cuts, just set the feeder accordingly. My recommendation would be to make the cut in at least passes. As long as you can get the cut quality to be half decent just use it and get what you can out of it. Make enough with it that you can afford to upgrade to a better machine. This adjustment is critical for having the parts fit together right, and there is no reason to expect that it is correct from the factory. My scmi shaper was right when I checked it, but my delta shaper was way off. It took at least two beers (power off) to get the spindle in strait. I would try adding one cutter at a time to the stack until the vibration starts.
Thanks again to Jeff Duncan for connecting me to that shaper. If all else has been addressed, next time you send the cutters out for sharpening, have them dynamically balanced. If vibration is worse with cutters stacked than with empty spindle, it may be the stack. I've bought a bunch of large reconditioned cutters from Oella saw, they get dynamically balance pre sale, man are they smooth. Sharp too. I doubt the table is causing the vibration, its a symptom of something out of balance. Think car tires. If your car shakes, could be bad balance, bad allignment, bad hubs? Short list. Congrats on your business and best of luck, Peter I didn't attempt a full pass. I'm skiddish about taking that much meat. The cope and stick joints were just snug enough to stick together. It took a few tries with the power feeder to get rid of snipe on the trailer end of the stiles. I've read about not having to sand burrs and fuzz off of cope cuts, but to actually see it was a good feeling. Thanks everyone for chiming in and giving advice. It definitely put my mind at ease. Rubber washers? on the spindle? jack English machines If your running large diameters on small machines I would check the bearings if your getting ripple. Most likely there shoot. So I checked everything: Pulley alignment (dead on), spindle alignment (out.002 at top,.0015 at bottom), and the table-to-spindle levelness (good). While working on all that I came up with the idea of putting a rubber washer between the underside of the table and the shaper base to create a dampener effect. I loosened all 4 bolts and took one out at a time, used a cats-paw to pry up just enough to slide the the washer in. It took me 5 minutes to get the table level by tweaking each bolt here and there (rubber reacts just a wee bit different when compressed than steel). I did the wedding ring test again. At 7k rpm on the extension, it hummed; on the main plate, nothing.
At 10k rpm on the extension, it barely chattered, and barely hummed on the main plate. Satisfied with the results, I put everything back together and made a test raised panel door. Aside from me learning more about my power feeder and tweaking my cope sled (darned ol' snipe), I finally made a door that required no pre-assembly hand sanding. There wasn't a fuzz to be found. I don't have enough experience to rate this shaper or the MLCS Katana cutters I'm using with it, but I will say this: after a crash course in shaper and cutter usage, they make a far better door than my Makita and CMT bit set. A shaper should not vibrate to that extent. When you find the time, figure out the real issue there as something is wrong and with a shaper you want everything working properly. Bad things can happen suddenly. Dave Clamp a straight edge that's thinner than your stock to the top of your shaper, the exact distance away from your cutters you want the width of your stiles. Obviously you can only do this with a feeder, but your using one so your set there. Now when you run your sticking it's impossible to have snipe and every piece comes out the exact same width;) I should also add while I'm at it, that you want to remove a little more meat than just the profile. Now I'm not sure if I misunderstood your point, are you saying you also get snipe with the coping sled??? I don't know exactly how your using your sled, but used properly I can't see any way you could get snipe with a sled:confused: If you elaborate maybe we can steer you through it. As far as the machine I agree with the others. If there's vibration.then there's a cause for vibration. Trying to mask it with rubber washers is probably not your best solution. The problem with inexpensive machines is it can cost you more than the machines worth to try and get it where it should be:o For instance when I bought my first industrial shaper I took the motor armature and sheave out to get balanced.
I feel like I know less today than I did when I started:o I can build projects now that I wouldn't have dreamed of attempting back when I started, but like anything else you take one step at a time and keep going. Don't bite off more than you can chew, but don't be afraid to take on the occasional challenge either. I've learned the hard way that once you start using your equipment to make a living, you have very different requirements than most of the guys on forums or writing magazine reviews. The best advice I can give you is try to buy the best equipment you possibly can and tune it well. Whether new or used, this is the stuff that's going to put money in your pocket.or not! FWIW I started out with a router table as most guys do. Then bought a Delta HD shaper.hated that thing! Next was a Powermatic 27 I bought new, much better machine but still too small for my needs. I finally upgraded to an industrial shaper and just the time I save from not having to sand profiles out anymore has made it pay for itself. I followed similar paths with several of my machines and looking back I somewhat regret it, though like most things in life it was a learning experience and one that's hard to avoid when going at it alone;) OK now back to the machine, if your joints are that loose I would start at the spindle. Do you have a dial caliper with magnetic base. If not you may want to pick one up.invaluable tool in the small shop. You'll want to check your spindle runout at top and bottom. If your off by a tiny bit it will magnify the problem the larger diameter your cutters are. These two things are the most important, if they're good you can still have some vibration without issue. Conversely if they're off, your not going to be making anything accurately.Either way of making doors or out-sourcing them, they each have their advantage. The biggest advantage the way I see it to building your own it puts you in control.I bought one of the first EZDoors and loved it.
Got more than I paid for it. I build a few doors and I outsource a few doors. The table is square with the spindle. Jeff, great minds think alike. After checking the table I grabbed my dial caliper. You answered my question before I could ask it. Has anyone ever tried putting a rubber washer (from a garden hose?) between the table and mounting bolts. I have a package of them so I'll give it a shot and test the level of table again after install. I won't run a cutter until I hear some more feedback. I'll let you know any differences. Justin Skip the middle step and go right to industrial sized shapers if you do a lot of work. I've got less than 10K into two SCMI T130 shapers, one slider, one fixed, including a Univer and an Elu feeder. ( Elu feeders are the best three wheel for a shaper out there that are used and reasonably priced). Both shapers were pristine and had only a few hours and virtually no runout. If you do your homework and look for machines before you need them you can equip a pro shop for pennies on the dollar. Dave The biggest problem I think I'm going to face in the immediate future is finding quality help. He leaves for college in 1 week. My ring would dance when out there, but just hum on the main plate. I installed water hose rubber grommets between the table and mount bracket. Now my ring just hummed on the extension and wouldn't do anything on the main plate. I changed pulleys for a 10k spin up. My ring vibrated on the extension, but didn't dance. Hopefully everything is now fine tuned. Time to make a test frame. As a pro, time is lost money, sanding takes time, small cheap shaper lead to sanding.you see where I'm headed. Make some money the hard way, use what you have, start planing to dump that thing. Last year I sold my last 3hp shaper to a guy just going out on his own, replaced it with a 7 hp older industrial, it's already earned the full purchase price twice in saved time on side jobs.
Having said that I still say get what you can out of it and make some money to afford better down the road;) Lastly I wouldn't recommend doing your raised hardwood panels in a single pass on that machine. You can probably do mdf just fine, but hardwoods are going to put a lot of stress on those undersized bearings. I know as I had to replace the bearings on my Powermatic 27 within 2 years of buying the machine. You can probably do mdf just fine, but hardwoods are going to put a lot of stress on those undersized bearings. I know as I had to replace the bearings on my Powermatic 27 within 2 years of buying the machine. Also, I would take a look at the weaver door systems site for ideas for setups, plus all the old door threads from this forum, as I mentioned yesterday. There are a lot of great pictures and explanations, and it's makes no sense to try to figure all this out yourself without first looking at how other people did it. I reread what I wrote and now see that I left mentioning snipe on the stiles. As for the stiles, yes I was running them against the fence. A few days ago I watched a video of a guy using a fence attached to a t-track and angling his power feeder towards it while running stiles. I plan on building one today. How much space should I allow between the stile and shaper fence. I hadn't considered that. Short of taking the whole thing apart, which I'm not comfortable with, any suggestions for more trouble shooting. Thanks for the tips and search criterion. I see no speed advantage. This gives enough room to allow for irregularity in sizes, (which I need for the way I mill these pieces), and keeps it close enough to get decent dust collection. As for locating the vibration.the way I find the source of vibration is usually through the process of elimination. Start by removing the belts.check result?, remove the pulley.check result?,.continue until you remove the vibration. Once the vibration disappears.
you've found the source;) JeffD Put some marks on set pieces and try rotating the largest diameter piece to a different position.Make sure spindle lock is working. Hard to say if its the cutters as a spindle moulder will run smooth without a cutter in it because the bearings are not loaded.Even with a bent spindle it will run smooth with out a cutter. Do you have a know good cutter. If you ask me you have plenty machine to make cabinets doors and 3 HP is plenty for a one sided panel in hardwood IMO. I would say you got a lemon if its new. Is the spindle seat clean and does it run just as bad with the other spindles in the machine. The spindle is not bent, I checked it with a dial caliper. I'll start tearing her apart tomorrow and check it one step at a time. Do industrial shapers utilize any type of vibration dampening. Just wondering, as I thought the rubber washer was still a good idea if I get every balanced. My little scmi t110 is much more massive than my delta shaper. Every part. And a t130 is similarly more heavy than the t110. The spindle is not bent, I checked it with a dial caliper. Just wondering, as I thought the rubber washer was still a good idea if I get every balanced.HP ranges are 5 to 15 with 7,5 and 9 common on even SCMI.I was actually thinking about it a bit and in reality this is such a difficult thing to really fully describe via a written description. In reality every woodworking machine has some vibration from the smallest box store special to the largest industrial machine. The question becomes how much is too much. Smaller machines generally have more for a myriad of reasons, they're lighter, made with cheaper materials, parts are not balanced as well etc., etc.! Larger more expensive machines have better machined parts, larger bearings, and as Stephen mentioned.mass! Larger machines are heavier than they probably need to be in order to add mass to dampen vibration. 2000 lbs of cast iron can really keep vibration down to a minimum.
Even so my Martin shaper which is about 1600 lbs, still has a tiny bit of vibration. It's smoother than any of the entry level machines will ever run mind you, but not quite what it should be. I had the armature and sheave balanced, but still have a tiny bit left. Having gone through the machine with a fine tooth comb and getting a lot of good advice and help from the company that did the balancing, we found that it's actually the motor. Being that it's probably over 50 years old it has enough wear on it that it puts out a tiny vibration. If I could walk into your shop and see it in person I could tell you right then and there, but I can't so I have to go by your wedding ring description. It still sounds to me like your machine has more vibration than it should. And I think you may be able to eliminate some if you got through it as I mentioned before. One of the first things I think I'd look at is the belts. Cheap Asian machine probably has some really cheap belt on there. If so that in itself could be part of your problem. Or it could be a combination of tiny imbalances. On most machines and motors parts are not precision balanced. So in theory your armature could be a tiny bit off, your motor pulley a tiny bit off, your drive pulley a tiny bit off all the way through to the spindle adding up to an overall vibration. Heavier machines dampen this out, smaller, lighter machines.not so much. As far as the rubber washers go I'm not sure that's really a good solution. Generally on a shaper you want your top as solid to the cabinet as possible as the weight of the cabinet helps with the dampening. I think eliminating the problem, not masking it, is still the best solution;) good luck, JeffD I've disconnected the pulleys and pulled the spindle. So basically, I have the motor running that's hooked to the motor mount plate, to the elevation housing, which is attached to the table. I tightened every bolt.
I checked the motor spindle for play and the pulleys with my dial caliper. Am I being unreasonable with the vibration. In understand the wing attachment should vibrate more because it's only side mounted and has not support other than its three bolts.Could it be a cheap pulley. Sometimes the bargain priced imports through a stamped or poorly balanced cast pulley in there. Did you say you pulled the motor pulley off or just pulled e belt. The motor pulley could have no runout and still be badly balanced regarding weight distribution, which adds a lot of centrifugal force in a pulsing manner, most likely source of vibration. If the pulley is still in the shaft can you pull it and run again? For the video there is: a 3hp motor running connected to the motor mount, connected to the elevation housing, connected to the cast iron table. I can remove the pulley but. I put my magnetic base dial caliper on the machine and measured against the pulley, spun it multiple times and only found.001 difference. Maybe I erred. I'll yank the pulley off and run it again. Try it with the pulley off. Pulleys can be set on shafts amiss and do cause more problems than motors do in general with new kit. Is this a vee belt or flat pulley. But, it is in good condition, no cracks, abrasions, or wear. BTW - this vibration is with the rubber washers still installed between the table and base. I'll set everything back to factory tomorrow and run it on video. Take the motor out and try turning it on by itself or with the pulley. It might start walking across the floor by itself. On the extension, just a slight amount of bouncing, but the wrench is not going anywhere. On the scmi t110- um,.But, I would start scanning craigslist to see when a big machine comes up. That way, if and when you want to add an additional shaper, you will know a good deal when you see it. On average, I see one or two good (I mean almost giveaway) deals per year on industrial quality shapers.
When one does come up, I would go and take a look at it. Everybody I have met while buying machines has been very friendly, and willing to share what they know. At least see a bigger machine running so that you have a idea of what to look for. Industrial quality machines are just different animals from lighter machines. This goes for saws also. I have a big table saw, and it always amazes me how it just digests wood without even breaking a sweat. And the big plus of industrial machines is that you can use better tooling. For the video there is: a 3hp motor running connected to the motor mount, connected to the elevation housing, connected to the cast iron table. I put my magnetic base dial caliper on the machine and measured against the pulley, spun it multiple times and only found.001 difference. Maybe I erred. I'll yank the pulley off and run it again. Its not about round, its about weight, you can't weight the pulleys dynamic balance with a claliper. Take a look at a good machined pulley, it's round for sure, but on the top or bottom edges you will see small drill holes where material was removed, sometimes a few of them. You see this on shaper cutters and heads too. They get precisely balanced so they don't introduce a pulse as they spin. Good news is you can buy machined pulleys cheap enough that are balanced if that's your culprit. I'd replace the belt with a VX clogged version, they don't get the memory problems, it may contribute to better overall performance, sure helped with my old delta that had sat for 15 years unused. I put a grizzly tefc motor on my little craftsman shaper, it was relatively cheap but runs very smooth, I suppose you could have a stinker, but that wouldn't be my first guess. This is a new shaper, right. Still under warranty. No way is that much vibration acceptable on that machine, with or without your rubber washers. There is so little vibration that a paperclip on the table barely moves.
